Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, is leading a joint public and private sector delegation to China to attract foreign investment into manufacturing and export-oriented industries, as the Mahama administration intensifies its industrial transformation push.
The delegation is participating in the China-Ghana Investment Forum, where Ofosu-Adjare is expected to present investment opportunities created under a zero-tariff trade arrangement between the two countries, alongside Ghana’s broader economic recovery and industrialisation agenda.
The minister will also promote Ghana’s position as a gateway to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), making the case that companies investing in Ghana gain preferential access to hundreds of millions of consumers across the region.
Securing foreign direct investment to expand local manufacturing capacity, diversify exports and drive job creation forms the central purpose of the visit. The delegation is scheduled to tour Chinese manufacturing facilities spanning recycling, plastics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, with officials studying production systems and exploring potential industrial partnerships.
Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture John Dumelo is accompanying the delegation alongside other senior government officials and private sector representatives.
Ghana has identified agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, automotive assembly and light manufacturing as priority sectors under its industrial strategy, and has moved to strengthen trade and investment ties with China as African economies compete more fiercely for manufacturing investment and supply chain partnerships.
