The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has declared the government’s offer to pay only two of four negotiated allowances in the mid-year budget demonstrates neglect of nurse welfare.

Following emergency talks with Parliament’s Health Committee, the association dismissed the proposed Book/Research and Uniform Allowances as insufficient, demanding immediate inclusion of all agreed terms.

“Government’s position is highly unacceptable and confirms it doesn’t prioritize our welfare,” the GRNMA stated, asserting the partial payment violates their Collective Agreement. The association’s 125,000 members will determine further action after crisis negotiations today with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

This dispute stems from the agreement’s exclusion from Ghana’s March 2025 budget despite prior assurances. The GRNMA previously suspended a nationwide strike on June 14 after government appeals, though labor tensions persist. Failure to resolve the impasse risks renewed healthcare disruptions.
