There cannot be an all out war in Ghana through religious, ethnic and partisan conflicts as experienced in other nations such as Rwanda.
There could be little conflicts emanation from land disputes partisanship or religious differences. Yet Ghanaians are so closely linked that we would shake off the conflicts and consider each his brothers or sisters keeper. Yes irrespective of our differences most of us agree that we are one people in one nation with a common destiny. A visit to our mosques markets parliament offices will reveal people of different beliefs ethnic and partisan backgrounds working together.
This signify that those things that unite the are more than those that divide them. In Ghana most of us share the same faith at one time when we attend some faith based schools attending mass or pray in mosques together but on leaving those schools on completion of our education we have often remained loyal to our original religious faiths. During ceremonies such as seminars and fora in all parts of Ghana, Muslims relate so well that Muslims or Christians are called upon to offer the opening and closing prayers. Inter marriages has made possible most families to have different ethnic groups and religions in them. There may be exchange of ideas and arguments on virtues of parties, religions and ethnicity. There could be exchanges on which football team is more superior to others. However it is not likely that all the exchanges can lead to serious all out conflicts. I do admit that we have had chieftaincy conflict in Upper East and West and Northern, Greater Accra Volta Region and Brong Ahafo Regions that led to some serious conflicts leading to loss of lives. A group of eminent chiefs and the national peace council have been working around the clock to find solution to these problems. They have done some so well and therefore deserve commendation. Some well meaning religious leaders are also praying regularly for god to bestow peace in all the conflict zones in the country. All political leaders and the presidency working through regional and district coordinating councils are also working tirelessly to maintain the peace in all parts of the country. To protest against ethnic discrimination and disunity in Ghana some leading members of the NDC have also organized a demonstration in the central parts of Accra .it was meant to rally all Ghanaians to work against ethnic conflicts. Because Ghana is truly peaceful and united country, some leading members of the NPP joined the NDC leaders in the demonstration. Although some people alleged that the NPP leaders were driven away from the demonstration the organizers of the program said that was not true.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, convener of the group, Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo refuted the claims by the NPP, insisting that nothing of that sort happened during the protest.
This he said is because some members of the NPP including Dominic Nitiwul and Mike Ocquaye were part of the protest from beginning to the end.
?We had the opportunity of being accompanied throughout the walk by Dominic Nitiwul, Mike Ocquaye Junior, David Asante and several NPP members, so the very question that they were heckled or sacked cannot be entirely accurate,? Mr Tameklo added.
The involvement of members of the NPP in the NDC instigated demonstration is good. As they do things together in parliament the political parties need to do things together. That will engender peaceful coexistence and peace on the land.
