Anointed Electrical Engineering Services Limited, a local distributor and repairer of generating sets, is set to commence their local production by the end of this year.
The company has completed construction of a state-of-the-art production facility ahead of full-scale production in December.
??We are moving from buying and selling to a complete assembling of generating sets locally, using locally trained engineers and technicians,?? Mr. Samuel Boateng, Managing Director, told the B&FT in an exclusive interview.
??Once we use our own people, they will understand the product better. We want to do something that can withstand our terrain. The facility will also serve as a training facility to many tertiary students interested in acquiring and developing their skills.
??This is intended to create effective linkages and augment the support that government will provide to the industrial and manufacturing sector of the economy,?? he said
Mr. Boateng lamented the lack of a conscious effort to support the manufacturing sector in the country. ??The government should consciously harness the expertise of professionals in Academia and other experts in industry, and charge them to consider the manufacturing of machinery and equipment.??
Over the past four years, the real GDP growth rate of the manufacturing sub-sector of the economy has declined from 3.7 percent in 2008 to about 1.7 percent in 2011. This has made it difficult for local manufacturing industries to compete on the international market.
