Nii Borketey Asuade I, Baatsona Mantse
The Chief of Baatsonaa in Accra, Nii Borketey Asuade I, has called on the centralgovernment and state protocol to desist from the current practice of not pouring libation at state functions, especially in the Greater Accra Region.
He noted with disappointment that the age-old practice and culture of pouring libation at state functions is being relegated to the background, to the dismay of the Ga State.
Speaking to the media at a press briefing in Accra recently, Nii Ausade I observed that ex-Presidents: Nkrumah, Rawlings and Kufuor did very well by ensuring that the pouring of libation by Ga Wolomo at state functions was an integral and important part of such programmes.
He however, said it is unfortunate that for sometime now, specifically from the late President J.E.A Mills and to President John Drama?s Mahama?s era the practice is being abolished.
In the estimation of the chief of Baatsonaa the Good Book-the Bible, even stresses that ?what belongs to God should be given to God and what belongs to Caesar should be given to Caesar?
According to him, pouring of libation is not ?evil? but a means of asking?God and ourancestors for protection and blessings.?
He also touched on the issue of the teachers? strike which he described as regretful.
He therefore appealed to government to resolve the matter to facilitate academic studies.
Nii Asuade I further advised government to ?abide by its words and provide teachers with what they genuinely deserve.?
