The striking workers operating the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah at the Jubilee Fields in the Western region have called off their strike and resolved to come ashore to start negotiations.

The agitated workers arrived at that decision after a marathon meeting, Thursday. They are due to travel to Takoradi to engage officials of MODEC Ghana Limited ? their employers.

All stakeholders involved are also due in Accra, November 3 to find an amicable settlement to the issue, the General Secretary of the General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union of the TUC, Iddrisu Fuseini, told Starr News.

Fuseini said since the owners of the rig ? Tullow ? were concerned about the ?security of the vessel and couldn?t immediately guarantee its security?, it will temporarily ask the crew on the ?other ship? to man the FPSO while the others are away in Accra.

The over 40 workers who work for MODEC Ghana Limited, the company that operates and maintains FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, were agitating over poor working conditions.

The Petroleum Commission said the strike could have a bad effect on the country?s economy. ?Any hour of operational disruption costs the nation significant amount of money in terms of operational cost and lost revenues,? the Commission said in a statement Wednesday.
