The exercise, which took place at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque in Accra, forms part of activities lined up for the year.

Hajia Sirina Keltu, Greater Accra Regional President said the exercise, which is to mark this year’s FOMWAG week celebration was organised to collaborate with the NSD in order to create awareness on the need to keep a clean environment around places of worship.

She said the FOMWAG week is celebrated or marked each year across 10 regions of the country to give back to the society and to create awareness about FOMWAG and enlighten Muslim women on the need to join the origination.

She said the exercise was to clean the mosque and its environs in an effort to reduce unsanitary conditions that breed diseases and causes injuries, adding that it is the national duty as citizens and Muslims for that matter.

Hajia Keltu said although the exercise over the period has received low patronage among the Muslim community, she expressed the hope that the attempt by FOMWAG to come in would encourage members and Muslim in general to take the exercise seriously in order to maintain clean environments at all times.

She thanked members for the massive patronage and participation in the exercise and urged residents around the Central Mosque to maintain clean and healthy environment at all times, in order to stay away from diseases.

FOMWAG is a non-profit organisation that helps in coordinating the activities of different Muslim women’s group in the country.

The Federation seeks to provide Muslim women with leadership training through a holistic education and to create a platform for discussion on issues of development for Muslim women in the West African sub- region.
