Five men are in the grips of the law for allegedly hatching a plot to rob a white man at East Legon.
The five accused persons allegedly planned to steal the man?s dollars based on information received by his houseboy but they were grabbed by the police before they could carry out their plan.
The accused persons- Ali Ibrahim, Adamu Mohammed, Umaro Ibrahim, herdsmen, Amadu Mohammed, mason and Kofi Dodzie alias Bube, farmer- were put before an Accra Circuit court presided over by Francis Obiri yesterday on a charge of conspiracy to commit crime.
Dodzie received an additional charge of possessing firearm without lawful authority.
They pleaded not guilty and were granted GH?10,000 bail with two sureties each.
The house boy of the white man, known only as John, who allegedly masterminded the plan, is currently on the run and being sought by the police.
DSP Reindorf Agyeman informed the court that the said John was a friend of Ali Ibrahim and that all the accused persons lived at different areas in Accra.
The prosecutor narrated that in September 2011, John visited Ali Baba at Klagon and informed him that his master had brought a brief case full of dollars so he should organize some people to go and rob him of the money.
Ali reportedly contacted one Issifu to assist them to recruit men for the job.
The prosecutor indicated that on October 1, 2011, Ali recruited Adamu and Amadu while Issifu also recruited Umaro and Dodzie.
DSP Agyemang disclosed that on October 2, 2011, at about 5:30pm, the accused persons met at Madina Atomic Junction where Ali allegedly called John who brought a taxi to pick them to his master?s house to attack him for the dollars.
According to the prosecutor, while they were in the taxi, police pounced on them and arrested them.
In the course of the arrest, Umaro, who had a knife on him, allegedly attempted to stab one Sgt. Abdulai Braimah, one of the arresting officers, but he was overpowered and the knife retrieved from him.
The police also retrieved two locally made pistols, four live BB cartridges and four garden gun cartridges from Dodzie.
The prosecutor disclosed that while Umaro was struggling with the police, John managed to escape arrest.
The prosecutor indicated that efforts were being made by the police to arrest John and Issifu.
