Five people died on Monday when the vehicle they were traveling in was swept by flash floods in southeastern Kenyan county of Kajiado.

The victims, including 2 adults and 3 children, were heading home after attending a wedding in neighboring Tanzania when they perished in the flash floods that have intensified in Kenya’s semi-arid counties amid torrential rains.

Local police commander said the victims of flash floods were members of the same family.

The latest deaths from flash floods came in the wake of massive landslides that hit northwestern Kenyan county of West Pokot on Friday night and have so far claimed 52 lives.

Humanitarian agencies in conjunction with local authorities have intensified emergency support for victims of flooding and landslides occasioned by torrential rains that are pounding Kenya and the greater eastern African region.
