Some residents of Tema ushered in the year 2015 with fire crackers despite the ban on its importation and use in the crackers 1

The thundering sound of the firecrackers could be heard all over the Tema Metropolis as some of the residents openly defied the ban.
The situation was so worrying that presbyters at the Redemption Congregation, Presbyterian Church of Ghana, in Tema Community nine had to caution those residents to desist from using the fire crackers near the church.
The residents set off the different types of fire crackers on the road and car park of the church.
The Ghana Police Service during the Yuletide announced its decision to smoke out sellers and users of fire crackers.
According to the police, the Service had deployed officers to patrol and arrest people selling or using the objects.
The Legislative Instrument (LI) backing the prohibition of fire crackers import, export and use came into force long ago.
Offenders of the fire crackers prohibition law are liable to a summary conviction of a fine not exceeding GHC 500 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding a year or both.
Meanwhile, most Christians in the Tema Metropolis clad mostly in white spent the eve of New Year in churches.
They sung praises and worship songs to thank God for His mercies during 2014.
Churches also prayed for peace and a better economy for the country in the year 2015.
