
The Enugu State Police Command has nabbed one Gabriel Obasi for allegedly impersonating as an official of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
In a statement in Enugu on Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amarizu, said that the suspect was arrested on August 30, following a report from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The statement said that the suspect, pretending to be a NAFDAC official at Orie Awgu Market, extorted N10, 000 from a local dry gin seller (Kai-Kai) for failing to present a licence backing his business.
“When the suspect was rounded up by our men, he revealed that he is not a NAFDAC official and started pleading for forgiveness.??
According to the statement, the command has commenced investigations on the incident.
In another development, the statement said the force also arrested two persons for allegedly being in possession of two double-barrel gun.
The suspects, Ernest Nwodo and Ifeanyi Ugochukwu, were arrested on September 1, along the Enugu- Port Harcourt Expressway during a routine stop and search of a commercial bus with registration number BH 948 ENU.
The statement also said that interrogations had commenced on the matter as the suspects were helping the police command on its investigation.
