Ethiopian Airlines will launch thrice weekly direct flights between Addis Ababa and Port Louis on July 12, replacing years of indirect codeshare routing to Mauritius.

The carrier previously moved passengers to the Indian Ocean island only through partner connections in Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Antananarivo. The new service removes that detour and offers a single ticket linking Africa’s largest aviation hub directly to the holiday destination.

Flight ET887 leaves Addis Ababa at 08:50 and reaches Port Louis at 15:20. The return flight ET886 departs at 16:15 and lands back in Addis Ababa at 20:45. Ethiopian will operate the route on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays aboard a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Aviation schedules show the service running through September 30 and remaining subject to government approval. The window targets the busy mid year travel period, when tourism traffic to Mauritius traditionally peaks.

Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said the route makes it “easier for Africans and other international tourists to visit” the island while widening trade channels.

The launch fits the airline’s broader strategy to connect African markets. Ethiopian now serves more than 160 destinations across five continents and runs partner hubs in Lomé, Lilongwe, Lusaka, and Kinshasa. Travellers from Mauritius gain access to that wider network through Addis Ababa.

Bookings have opened across the airline’s official channels.
