Ethiopia plans to meet the drinkable water demands of 8.1 million people in the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year (EFY) 2017/18 which started on July 9.

Sileshi Bekele, Minister of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MoWIE) said in the 2016/17 fiscal year that concluded on July 8, the Ministry was able to meet the drinkable water needs of 5.9 million people.

The minister said it has plans to hire 25,000 new graduates during the 2017/18 fiscal year who will work on 110,000 hectares of land set aside for water irrigation projects.

The ministry further plans to hire 260,000 Ethiopians on temporary work basis helping meet the Ethiopian government plans to create employment opportunities for its youth population.

The Ethiopian government estimates that the youth which makes up 60 percent of of the nation’s 100 million people, enter into the job market at a rate of 2 million annually. Enditem
