Drama unfolded at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency of the Central Region yesterday when supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) opposed President John Dramani Mahama?s endorsement of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Joseph S. Annan.
The president was in the region to introduce parliamentary candidates and sell the party?s 2012 manifesto to the electorate.
The aggrieved supporters shouted, ?Away, away? to express their disappointment at the MP, when he was about to be introduced by the president, since he had shown gross disrespect to them and brought division among executives of the party.
They hooted at the president for attempting to foist Dr Annan, a deputy minister of Trade and Industry, on them.
The supporters noted that the actions of Dr. Annan had made the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) gain more grounds to win the seat, adding that the NDC might lose the seat.
They stated that the only person who could retain the seat for the NDC was Dr. Ato Quarshie, an independent parliamentary candidate in the area.
President Mahama, who looked confused, immediately stepped in and appealed to the supporters to have trust in him since he was ready to resolve issues which existed and created numerous factions within them.
He reiterated that the only remedy for the NDC to stay in power was for members in the party to unite as one family with a common vision.
DAILY GUIDE?s information indicates that the two ?enemies?, Dr. Quashie and Dr. Annan, were seated on the dais with the president, although Dr. Quarshie is alleged to been expelled from the party based on the NDC?s constitution.
Although Dr. Quarshie had flouted the party?s constitution, his supporters, yesterday morning, converged on Elmina junction on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway to welcome the president to the constituency.
DAILY GUIDE further gathered that some constituency and regional executives of the ruling government have already thrown their support behind Dr. Quarshie.
