HUNDREDS OF supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western region last Sunday gathered at the Aiyinase health centre park to witness the inauguration of the Ellembelle NPP Drivers Association.
Amid brass band music and tooting of horns, the elated drivers clad in the NPP T-shirts and colours marched through some of the communities in the constituency and later gathered at the venue for the programme.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, George Essien, President of the association, remarked that the inauguration was geared towards streamlining activities to ensure that more constituents rallied behind the NPP.
He tasked the members of the association to start campaigning for the NPP in all the communities in the constituency.
Addressing the gathering later, Driver Essien, as he is affectionately called, expressed worry that the three-year administration of the NDC had collapsed all credible foundations of socio-economic development laid by the NPP administration.
According to him, the NPP government, under former President John Kufuor, had implemented a lot of interventions that brought relief to the people, as well as embarked on a lot of road projects in the constituency.
He said an NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo would come out with aggressive policies and programmes that would reduce the economic hardship on Ghanaians.
Kurentsir Sam, Western Regional Secretary of the NPP, advised the people, especially those above 18 years, to register when the Electoral Commission (EC) began the voters’ registration exercise.
He explained that the exercise “is new because names in the old voter’s register will not be valid anymore for the 2012 general election.
“Those who have attained 18 years and above should all register when the exercise begins on March 24 this year”, he added.
Kwesi Biney, Regional First Vice chairman of the NPP, noted that Ghanaians would attest to the fact that the NDC government had mismanaged the economy of the country, adding that the NDC did not deserve another four-year term.
“The constitution gives a four-year term to every president of Ghana. However, the people will renew the president’s mandate when that president has performed. But Mills has failed and doesn’t deserve another term”, Mr. Biney alleged.
He described the NDC as “National Democratic Criminals” and called on the people to reject the NDC in the December polls and vote massively for the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo.
He urged members of the Ellembelle Drivers Association to explain the good vision and mission of Nana Akufo-Addo to passengers who boarded their vehicles.
Present at the inauguration ceremony was Hon Freddy Blay, former Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Kwesi Bonzoh, the constituency’s Parliamentary candidate of the NPP in the December parliamentary polls.
