The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Thursday released a new load-shedding schedule to guide consumers and businesses to cater for power generation shortfalls.
This followed widespread complaints from consumers across the country on the failure of the ECG to stick to its own timetable.
?? The February 6 to March 5, 2015, schedule will see demarcated areas go off from 0600 hours to 1900 hours GMT in the day and from 1800 hours to 0600 hours GMT.
?? While some areas go off, others have been put on stand-by “and may or may not go off, depending on the quantum of power to be shed”.
?? The country currently sheds 650 megawatts (MW) of power during peak hours and 440MW during off-peak hours.
?? Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for the ECG, William Boateng, has appealed to power consumers to conserve electricity.
?? Ghana is struggling to meet the growing demand for electricity leading to a massive load shedding exercise across the country.
?? The erratic power supply has led to a number of businesses cutting down on the number of their employees.
