Some registration officers who worked on the biometric registration exercise have given the Electoral Commission a one week ultimatum to pay their allowances or risk being sued in court.
The registration officers who undertook the Biometric Voters? Registration (BVR) exercise on behalf of the EC say they are tired of the Commission?s unfulfilled promises as their actions are tantamount to a breach of contract.
The spokesperson of the aggrieved officers, Roland Richmond said they have already consulted their lawyers and have been advised accordingly.
He added that the group is demanding for an explanation for the constant delay. ?We want to know if government has released the money allocated for the exercise to the Electoral Commission, but are refusing to pay us or government hasn?t released the money,? Richmond said.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission insists payment would be made soon.
According to the acting Public Relations Officer of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry, ?the Commission is working around the clock to ensure that they receive their money within the shortest possible time.?
Mr. Owusu Parry further stated that the Finance Department has given indications that the allowances will be ready for payment to be effected possibly next week.
