E. P Preparatory School located at Suhum Municipal of the Eastern Region, has marked its 10thanniversary celebration Speech and Prize ? Giving Day.
The occasion was graced and supported by high profile dignities from various in the Municipal with the theme; Character Training, An important competent of Quality Education.
The Guest Speaker Mr. Fred Kpoor, the District Director of Education at the Akyemansa in an open speech said Quality Education is one of the powerful asserts for reducing poverty, superstitions, squalor and inequality for the laying a sound foundation for a sustainable economic growth, thus the vital role of education which is expected to play in a development of our country cannot be over emphasized.
He said character Education or Training is an umbrella term loosely used to describe the teaching of manners that will develop variously as; moral, civic, good mannered, well behaved, non bullying, healthy, critical, complainant and all socially acceptable beings, also the concepts that have fallen under this include; social and emotional learning, moral reasoning, life skills education, conflict prevention, critical thinking, conflict resolution and mediation.
He further expresses that the world declaration of Education for All -EFA which was adopted at the world conference by representations of more than one hundred and fifty governments in Jomtien, Thailand, gave a ray of hope for the realization of the need for the quality education, for all irrespective of geographical location. The sixth foundational objective identified for the EFA seeks for increased acquisition by individuals and families of the knowledge, skills and values required for better living and sustainable development through all education channels.
The District Minister of the E.P Church, Rev Otieku Emmanuel said the school was established with the idea of Rev. J. K. Y Korkor on a committee commissioned by the church which was started on 10th?March, 2003 by Rev Pat Bertha Ofori who was the former District Church Minister from 2002 to 2010, the school was started from cr?che with four pupil, while the classes were on going in the chapel, a plot of land belong to the church was targeted for the construction of classroom, the plan was drawn for a 2 storey building to house the primary and JHS while the building stands still, due to shortage of money to continue.
He said the school grew each year with the pupils moving further to upper classes with the support of the church, in September 2011 the school grew to JHS level, with enrollment of 135 boys and 143 girls totally 278 in the primary while 11 boys and 18 girls in the JHS totally 29.
He further expresses that the hard work of the Teachers, Management, Pastors, and church members have made the school have all levels that constitute the basic level in education in the Municipal and appeals to Government and NGOs to help the school to improve its educational infrastructures.
