The General Council of the Arterial Network is currently meeting in Rabat, Morocco, (10-11 November), where Arterial Network is proud to launch its new website, actualizing its mission in becoming a leading source of information and exchange for the African creative sector and its diaspora.
Arterial Network? web-platform, www.arterialnetwork.org, will revolutionize the way members and partner organizations communicate about their activities and projects, becoming a true forum for the African creative sector while showcasing the nature and scope of the organization?s endeavors and efforts.
The new website has a range of extremely practical and useful resources for arts practitioners, Some of these features include ?The Network,? an interactive map where members and countries will be profiled with updates on their activities, events and partnerships; the ?Artwatch Africa? page that profiles the latest news on censorship, cultural and artistic rights and its various workshops ran across the continent and the ?Opportunities? page that will be constantly updated with vacancies, residencies, call for papers, awards and conferences.
Additionally, the ?Publications? page will have Arterial Network?s toolkits downloadable for free, as well as Arterial Network?s partners? research and a vast array of useful resources for cultural practitioners. These resources and publications include; The Arts Marketing Toolkit, Art & Culture Information Directory, The Fundraising Toolkit, and Adapting the Wheel: Cultural Practices in Africa amongst others.
With this new website and through the dissemination of pertinent information, relevant research, a stronger defense and monitoring of infringements made to freedom of creation and creative expression, Arterial Network sets the pace once more for sustained action for the African creative sector.
Peter Rorvik, Arterial Network Secretary General, explains further:
The geographic and financial challenges of mobility in Africa are often identified as major impediments to greater alliances between artists and cultural practitioners. It is hoped that our new website will make an active contribution for arts activists by providing them with the latest news and opportunities available to them, by informing them on cultural policy developments and on infringements made to freedom of expression continent wide.
Finally, we hope to give our members an exclusive chance to showcase their work and projects in their respective countries to precipitate further collaborations and partnerships.
Arterial Network is a dynamic, civil-society network of artists, cultural activists, entrepreneurs, enterprises, NGOs, institutions, and donors active in Africa?s creative and cultural sectors. Established as a member-based, non-profit organisation, Arterial Network operates as a bilingual network with French and English as its official languages.
Arterial Network?s mission is to create civil society networks of artistic roleplayers and empower their work for the cultural dimension of development. Arterial undertakes research, training and advocacy functions to build individual and organisational capacity, and create an enabling and sustainable environment for democratic arts practice in Africa.
