There was pandemonium along the Kejetia- Pampaso street in Kumasi last Thursday when a driver of an over-speeding Nissan Urvan bus with registration number GR 5231 Q drove a crowded street, seriously injuring one person.

The victim, a middle-aged woman whose name was not immediately known to this paper, was among the numerous pedestrians walking along the said street when she met the unfortunate incident; she is reported to have fallen unconscious immediately after the impact of the bus.

Sources told this paper that she is currently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

A visit to the accident scene revealed that stalls and road markings along the route had been ripped off.

Some commuters along the route intimated that it was apparent the driver had a brake failure and could therefore do little to avoid the incident.

They narrated that some pedestrians who heard the horns of the bus tilting loud had to hop from one place to another in desperation, trying to avoid the bus while other vehicles also veered off their lanes to prevent near collusion.

Onlookers also disclosed that the driver also drove carelessly adding that instead of waiting for vehicles crossing from Pampaso to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to pass at an intersection in front of the First Capital Plus Bank, the Urvan driver rather sped through them.

They noted that it was when he wanted to slow down that his brakes failed him, forcing him to eventually send the car into a ditch.
