Convener for the Forum for Governance and Justice, Dr. Clement Apaak
The convener of the Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ,) Dr. Clement Apaak, has been slammed in the face as the Chief Justice (CJ,) Justice Georgina Theodora Woode, has instructed that the proceedings of the Supreme Court hearing the election petition be telecast live on Ghana Television and Radio Ghana.
Earlier, Dr. Apaak and FGJ as well as some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had opined that a live telecast of the court proceedings on television or radio might be counter-productive for the country.
The forum further claimed that the live telecast of the hearings will put in danger the lives of the Judges who will sit on the electoral petition since they (the judges) could be maligned by parties who would be discontented with their verdict.
FGJ was reacting to proposals by the Executive Director of Danquah Institute (DI,) Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, who had appealed to the CJ to permit television cameras to broadcast all proceedings of the suit.
DI had argued that the live telecast would lessen the chances of prospective spin doctors from spinning on the proceedings and verdict of the Supreme Court, with the intention to stimulate tension.
Now that the proceedings of the court hearing is being telecast live, Dr. Apaak and some of the NDC members who were against the live telecast of proceedings are very disappointed and are entangled as to their next line of action.
Majority of Ghanaians had wondered what the fear of Dr. Apaak and the NDC was as they were vehemently against the live telecast.
Meanwhile, survey conducted by the paper revealed that most Ghanaians were excited that the case was being telecast live.
However, they had proposed that other television and radio stations should also be allowed to telecast proceedings.
