The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that electricity has been restored to Dodowa, Oyibi, and surrounding communities in the Greater Accra Region following yet another outage triggered by a recurring fault on the area’s ageing underground cable infrastructure.

The restoration comes after an underground cable fault at the Dodowa Forest Hotel corridor knocked out supply to a string of communities including Dodowa Township, Oyibi, Appolonia, Adombrobe, Bawaleshie, Malejor, and Green Field Estate, disrupting homes and businesses in one of Accra’s rapidly growing peri-urban corridors.

In a statement issued today, the ministry said power had been restored and that engineers were now constructing a new 10-span overhead line to bypass the damaged 33-kilovolt underground cable that has repeatedly caused disruptions along the route. The bypass project is intended to provide a more stable supply while a permanent solution is assessed.

The Dodowa-Oyibi corridor has experienced multiple outages in recent weeks from the same fault source. A similar disruption on March 25 was recorded by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in its public fault notices, with the power distributor apologising to affected customers for the inconvenience caused.

The ministry urged residents in the affected communities to continue reporting any remaining supply issues to their nearest ECG district office and assured the public that engineers remained on standby to address residual faults along the line.
