The Shield Soccer Clinic (SSC) TV show is gaining grounds as the weeks roll by, and it is becoming popular with the youth and the aged alike.

The program, handled with precision by former France and Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly, hit the third week last Sunday  with the host touching on ‘turns’.

He threw more light on the benefits of  ‘turns’ as a skill that helps players invade their opponent’s territory with little struggle.

“There is always the need to change direction to advance, and ‘turns’ help to achieve that,” Desailly stated.

He touched on the various kinds of ‘turns’, the most popular-‘Cruyff Turn’ coined from the Holland’s 1974 Johan Cruyff antics against Sweden during the World Cup.

In demonstration, he advised that in order to achieve turning, a player should fake to pass the ball while running, then later drag the ball beyond the planted foot with the inside of the foot then turn through 90 degrees and accelerate.

On career guidance, Desailly admonished players to stick to correct dieting (balanced), saying “For breakfast, cereal is recommended but reduce butter and sugar. Reduce olive and palm oil during lunch and go for rice or spaghetti for dinner. Drinking all day is highly recommended,” he added.

The program, put together by Shield Acrylic Paints and Lizzy Sports Complex, is aired on Metro TV at 2.30 PM, 5.50pm on Viasat 1 every Sunday and 8.00PM on GTV on Fridays.
