Deputy Global AIDS Coordinator Visits US Embassy

Ambassador Cretz welcomes Deborah von Zinkernagel, Principal Deputy Global AIDS Coordinator in the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, which leads implementation of the U.S. President?s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to Ghana.

During her stay Ms. Von Zinkernagel and Ambassador Cretz met with representatives of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Ministries of Health and Finance, the Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund,? and civil society organizations.? Ms. Von Zinkernagel noted, ?We view Ghana as a country of opportunity, and we are encouraged that our partnership will help Ghana to turn the tide for caring for people living with HIV and AIDS and for preventing new infections.?? She further applauded Ghana for being one of the few countries in Africa to have a fully developed National Strategy for Key Populations and commended the work done so far to get services to those who need them most.

?She appreciated receiving updates on procurement and supply chain technical assistance provided through USAID Ghana, on the dedicated efforts of Ghanaian laboratories to meet international accreditation standards through their partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and learning about PEPFAR efforts to strengthen and integrate health information systems operating throughout the country.
