DCE Fails For The Fifth Time

MahamaThe members of the Birim South District Assembly has failed to confirm the President?s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Emmanuel Kwakye for the fifth time at its emergency meeting at Akim Swedru.

38 out of the 42 Assembly members were present for the voting and the nominee secured 20 votes, representing 52.6 percent which is below the two thirds majority votes required.

The Assembly members are expected to vote again on the issue within 10 days and if the assembly again fails to confirm the nominee, the President could nominate another person.

The Assembly have failed to confirm the DCE?s appointed by the president on five consecutive times.

Addressing the assembly, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Mavis Ama Frempong pleaded with the Assembly members to place the interest of their district first in all their decisions since the delay in the confirmation of the DCE could affect the development of the district.

Ms Frempong urged the Assembly members to think about the development of Akim Bosome within the 10 working days and make a decision that will be of benefit to the people in the district. GNA
