The Senate President reacts to an alleged plot to remove the Senate Minority Leader
Senate President David Mark has taken a swipe at the Action congress of Nigeria (ACN) advising the party to put its house in order.
Mark who was reacting to an alleged plot to remove the Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, from office, described the plot as “crude and shocking”.
He advised the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to stop name-calling and “put its house in order”, saying “the Senate, as a body, is cohesive and united in enacting laws that will continue to improve the standard of living of all Nigerians.”
Mark said that having been elected on the platform of the PDP, majority party in the Senate, he “does not attend meetings of the minority parties”.
“I am not a member of the minority parties; I do not attend the meetings of the minority parties. How then do I get involved in the plot to remove the minority leader?”
He noted that the nomination of principal officers of the National Assembly is the exclusive preserve of the political parties, and urged the ACN to focus on promoting progressive ideas.
The Senate President also urged the party to shun anything capable of creating “disaffection in the one united family Senate of very committed statesmen and women”.
Akume (ACN – Benue) had alleged that some elements were working to destabilise and weaken the minority leadership in the Senate to pave way for his removal.
