Tropical cyclone Ava landed in Toamasina, northeast Madagascar, on Friday around 01:00 p.m. local time (04:00 GMT), the country’s meteorological service said.

“Ava has further intensified and is a very dangerous system for the people of these areas of the central East of the country. Its intensity rises to 140 km per hour alternated by gusts of 195 km per hour within 30 km of the center,” the service said.

According to the Office of Risk and Disaster Management, a woman was also killed in Ampasimbe-Onibe in Toamasina.

Heavy rain has started for several days in the majority of localities in Madagascar, including the capital Antananarivo. Enditem
