Allied Oil Company Limited, Crown Petroleum Ghana Limited, PUMA Energy Limited, Universal Oil Company Limited, Fraga Oil Company Limited, and Frimps Oil Company Limited were also cited by the drivers as providing useful services.

Mr Anthony Gadegbe, Accra to Aflao driver, Mr Iddi Issah Accra to Lagos driver, Mr Raphael Doe, and Mr Thomas Gyamerah of Lagos station in Accra explained that their choice of GOIL was based on the competitive pricing and the quality of the product.

Mr Kwabena Ofori, Accra to Suhum driver said: “I buy from Shell and I don’t consider the price because to me Shell fuel is the best”.

Other drivers the GNA spoke to includes Mr Seth Taylor, a commercial driver at CMB, Mr Frank Ocquaye Yeboah a taxi driver, and Mr Tanko Mumuni, the chairman of the CMB Drivers Association.

The rest are Mr Emmanuel Awudi, an Accra-Aflao driver at the Tudu; Nana Kwame Sarpong, the Ho station; Mr William Ocquaye, the Chairman of the Tema station and La Young Men Cooperate Association (LaYMCA) driver’s union; Mr Eric Kwafio, the President of the Markola Rawlings Park Co-operative Transport Society and Mr Eric Terkpertey at the Okaishie Station.

Some drivers expressed unhappiness with the fuel price volatility due to both local and international concerns.

Some of the drivers said many Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) were not adhering rigidly to the bi-weekly price review regime especially when prices are reduced during the review.

Under the deregulated regime, OMCs are to review the prices of petroleum products by the first or second day of the month and again around 16 and 17 day.

The drivers called on the National Petroleum Authority to monitor the OMCs and ensure total compliance.

Mr Divine Newman, a taxi driver, suggested that there should be further reductions because passengers cannot afford to pay the fares.

Another driver from La lorry station also said a 15 per cent decrements is needed to save the situation.

The huge increase in fuel price followed by very a little decrease has taken a heavy toll on the finances of drivers.
