Popular Ghanaian comedian DKB has publicly questioned MTN Ghana’s data accounting practices after his 214GB TurboNet bundle depleted within 19 days a fraction of the duration previous 92GB bundles lasted under similar usage.
In a July 2025 social media video, DKB stated his prior 92GB bundle sustained 6–8 weeks of movie streaming and browsing, while the larger bundle vanished after “less than three weeks” and “one movie.”
The comedian highlighted inconsistent data consumption patterns despite unchanged habits: “How can 214GB last three weeks when 92GB lasted two months? MTN, please explain.” His complaint echoes widespread consumer frustrations following MTN’s 2024 bundle adjustments—a revision implemented after regulatory pressure from Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and the National Communications Authority (NCA).
MTN Ghana’s corporate communications team acknowledged the complaint via standard channels, reiterating that “network upgrades may affect data consumption rates differently.” No technical explanation for the accelerated depletion was provided. Industry analysts note streaming quality upgrades (e.g., HD default settings) and background app updates could contribute but emphasize transparency gaps in carrier data accounting.
The National Communications Authority confirms receiving increased consumer queries about data bundle durability since Q1 2025 but cites “no systemic violations” in ongoing audits.
