They have the laws of the country hostage and they are doing what they wants disrespecting the country?s norms, folkways, norms and mores wed stand aside and look.

More than twenty Chinese illegal miners together with a team of Ghanaians were busted by a combined security team from AngloGold Ashanti, the military, the Obuasi police service and G4S. They were arrested between the Obuasi Airport area and Adumanu village .

Majority of the illegal miners took to their heels to the bushes around the Adumanu but the unlucky ones who could not beat th chase mounted by the security team were named as: Weng Yong Sei, Li-War Gsam, Li Fei Jiang, and Weng Yong Nang. The local illegal miners who were also arrested working for the Chinese were Asebea Simon, Atanga Dominic, Berko Seth, Amo Nii, Alhansan Adansi, Kinsley Yakubu, Michael Frimpong, Evens Atobra, Ofori Appiah Emma, Nuama Francis, Kofi Nti and Abdulai Mohammed.

They are now in the custody of the Obuasi police service awaiting further investigation and possibly trial at the law court.

The people of Adumanu area, which is part of the New Edubease Traditional Area, are subsistence cocoa, cassava, cocoa, citrus and plantain farmers but in recent years they have been forcibly rendered unemployed by illegal miners, particularly the Chinese who use heavy equipment to mine riverbeds and streams in the area. The Chinese are in the mining on the very fertile lands where they had their farms.

Complains upon complains made to the police, local politicians, chiefs and elders of the area by the people have mostly fell on deaf years, some youth in the community lamented, as they accused the tradional leaders for been part of the illegal mining ring. The arrest and seizure of the Chinese miners and their equipment is certainly good news to the ordinary people in the communities but their fear is that it will not be long for these illegal miners to be released by the police.

Opayin Odei Domfe, ?We have seen the arrest of the illegal miners for the past two years, but we continue to see the same faces everyday destroying our farmlands without compensation. When are they going to stop bilking us? The laws of Ghana are not working? as there is genuine people to protect us?

It is not only the communites which are suffering from the Chinese burden. AngloGold Ashanti, the Municipal authority and the entire people of Ghana have become second rate citizens while the Chines are destroying irresponsibly the environment and stealing our gold. Chinese Mining Site at Adumanu
