
Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa I and the other paramount chiefs of Gonjaland have said they would welcome any government programme that would develop the area.

The chiefs said this when Mr Julius Debrah, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, paid courtesy calls on them in their palaces.
Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa said Gonjaland and for that Ghana was peaceful and appealed to his people to be up and doing to bring development to the West Gonja District, the Northern Region and the country.
He appealed to the government to create jobs and promote investment.
Mr Debrah reiterated the government?s commitment to create jobs and to create an enabling environment to promote businesses and investment.
He said the Ministry had initiated four thematic plans to provide social housing, small and micro enterprises, environmental sanitation and the provision of portable water throughout the country.
Mr Debrah appealed to the chiefs to encourage people to contest the district level elections to promote development.
Mr Ali Kassim Bakari, District Chief Executive (DCE) for West Gonja, said the assembly was faced with challenges and that notwithstanding, the progresses had been made.
“We still need government support to compliment the efforts we are making,? he said.
The DCE promised a turnout of 90 per cent during the district assembly elections, adding that during the last assembly election the district recorded the highest turnout nationwide.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, commended the chiefs and people of Gonjaland for their support for the national sanitation exercise and appealed to them to continue the exercise in their localities.
