However, he said, chiefs held a latent force, which when coordinated well could work magic for the national progress.
Nii Oti said this when he paid a courtesy call on Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), to officially introduce himself to him.
He said their requests, as chiefs, to be allowed to assist in the development of the city would not only serve the people well but their contributions would also add value to the Millennium City agenda.
“It is time that as a nation, we do away with excessive partisan politics in our local governance if we desire to progress steadily in the direction of responsible self –development,” he said.
Nii Oti urged the MCE to keep the faith and do more in bringing development to the people.
”I am so excited because the people of my traditional jurisdiction are the immediate beneficiaries of most of these laudable projects works done by the AMA and the Government, especially, the construction of the numerous Millennium schools that have eliminated the shift system in the Metropolis,” he said.
Dr Vanderpuije said he was happy about the recognition and the commitment of the chiefs to support the development of Accra.
He assured the chiefs of peaceful national elections in November, saying elections should not divide the nation but bring peace for enhanced development.
He also urged the chiefs to join hands with the AMA to ensure good sanitation in Accra.
In another development, Mr Robert Porter Jackson, the United States (US) Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on Dr Vanderpuije and assured the AMA of US’ support and the exchange of views on issues of common interest.
He recognised the effort of the AMA towards enhancing quality education, health and youth empowerment.
Mr Jackson said the US Mission had pledged its support for Ghana to promote local governance, forge city to city relationships, encourage higher institutions of learning to carry out exchange programmes and to expose the Assemblymen to better ways of doing things right.
Dr Vanderpuije said the Ghana –US relations had kept a sound momentum of development, adding that, the AMA was looking forward to the completion of more Millennium schools blocks to ensure that no child was left behind in accessing quality education.
“When you raise a child and you raise him or her well he will grow to become a useful citizen in society,” he said.
