Final-year students of Chereponi Senior High School (SHS) in the North East Region have staged a protest over what they describe as poor and inadequate feeding conditions and the alleged misuse of a levy collected from parents to support them during their examination period. The students accused the headmaster and his assistant of corruption, claiming that food items meant for students are being diverted for personal use. They said the quantity and quality of meals served at the school have been consistently inadequate, forcing them to take their frustrations public. A separate grievance concerns a GH¢200 levy collected from parents by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to support candidates during examinations. The students said they had completed nearly three examination papers without receiving any form of support from the fund and are demanding a refund. “We cannot be making payments and not be seeing the benefits,” one student told the media. Chereponi District Director of Education Daniel Nii Adjetey visited the school following one of the examination sittings to engage the students and appeal for calm. He assured them that their grievances would be investigated and addressed, describing many of the complaints as administrative issues tied to PTA agreements over intervention classes and student support. He also suggested that some of the concerns may have been shaped by individuals outside the school. The assistant headmaster denied the allegations, insisting that school management does not control PTA funds and that the institution has adequate food supplies. Education authorities say stakeholder engagements are ongoing to restore calm and resolve the outstanding issues.
