The life story of Maya Angelou without the mention of Ghana can never be complete! It is in light of this and for the fact that she is a poetry and literature giant, that under the auspices of Oswald George Okaitei (World Poetry Empowered Poet 2013 from Ghana) with support from Dubois Memorial Centre and Ghana Association of Writers, comes a special poetry event “A POETRY CHAPLET TO MAYA”.
The event designed to last for a maximum of one hour thirty minutes at the Dubois Memorial Centre, Accra near the United States of America Embassy, will be hosting mostly young Ghanaian poets and musicians celebrating this awesome phenomenal woman-Maya Angelou.
It will also host the launch of a collection of poems, A BRIGHT LIGHT SLEEPS & Other Poems, by Oswald George Okaitei and dedicated to Maya Angelou. Some of the literary and societal figures who will be gracing the occasion include Professor A.B. Akosah (Chairperson), Professor Atukwei Okai (Special Guest of Honour), Mr. Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng?(Guest Speaker), Professor Helen Yitah, Dr. G. Agambila, Representatives from the US Embassy, Kwasi Pratt Jr. , among others.
The evening promises to be a very memorable one as poets and musicians as Michael Kwaku Somuah, Nii Ayi Solomo, Apiorkor Syiram, Yogendra & crew, Afero, Kwame Write, Koo Kumi, Andy Aryeetey, Chieff Moomen, Oswald among others will perform pieces of Maya and those composedby themselves in dedication to Maya and or the values she stood for.
