A casual worker at Nigeria’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos has drawn widespread commendation after returning a lost purse containing $1,700 in cash, two passports, and a credit card to its rightful owner on Wednesday, April 29.

Frank Omorojie, who works in the Environment Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), discovered the purse at the departure hall of Terminal 2, near the RwandAir check-in counter. Without hesitation, he handed the item over to Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel, setting off a process that would reunite a distressed traveller with belongings she had feared were gone for good.

Following standard airport procedures, AVSEC logged the recovered items and transferred them to the Customer Service unit, which broadcast a public announcement across the terminal. Within minutes, a female Nigerian passenger scheduled to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, came forward. Every item in the purse, including a Nigerian passport, a British passport, and the credit card, was returned to her intact.

Airport officials praised Omorojie’s conduct, describing it as a demonstration of the professional and ethical standards FAAN seeks to uphold across its operations. The authority said acts of this nature reinforce public trust in airport personnel and align with international best practices in aviation management.

Omorojie, a casual member of staff with no guarantee of institutional recognition for his actions, offered a simple explanation for what he did. “I just did what was right,” he said.
