Cameroon has beefed up security in the capital Yaounde after an improvised explosive device exploded in a populated market on Tuesday and injured three people.

Emmanuel Mariel Djikdent, prefect of Mfoundi division where the capital is located announced measures to prevent further blast.

“The deposit and / or abandonment of parcels (bags, packages, plastic) is prohibited in public places and environments open to the public. Law enforcement agencies are authorized to search any package or bag deemed suspicious,” Djikdent said in a statement Tuesday night.

“Unjustified possession of susceptible objects (nuts, balls, bolts, nails, pieces of iron) is dangerous,” he added.

Additional police have been deployed to patrol the city day and night, according to officials.

The measures were taken after an improvised explosive device packaged in a plastic bag went off in a busy market called Mokolo market Tuesday afternoon.

It was the second time in a week that a bomb exploded in the market. Last week, the country’s Minister of Communication and government spokesman, Rene Emmanuel Sadi urged the citizens to be vigilant after an improvised explosive device exploded in the market, leaving four people injured, two of them in critical condition.
