Justice Sepe, 21, labourer, has been remanded into police custody by an Accra circuit court for allegedly stealing cable belonging to Vodafone Ghana.
The accused and three others at large, are said to have agreed and acted together with a common purpose to steal the cable valued at GH?10,000. Sepe pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy and pleaded not guilty to the stealing charge.
The trial judge, Francis Obiri, deferred sentencing of the accused on the charge of conspiracy until May 31.
The facts as presented by Chief Supt. Duuti Tuaruka, were that the complainant, Adane Boateng, is a trader at Taifa Junction in Accra, while Sepe and his accomplices are squatters at Kaneshie and Kwame Nkrumah Circle, suburbs of Accra.
He stated that at about 5:00 am on May 20, Boateng spotted Sepe and his accomplices at Taifa Junction pulling some cables towards a truck parked close to his (Boateng?s) shop, adding that on seeing the complainant approaching, they (Sepe and the accomplices) took to their heels.
Chief Supt. Tuaruka said Boateng raised an alarm and the suspects were chased by neighbours, but only Sepe was apprehended and brought to the police station where a report was made.
The prosecutor said the accused person (Sepe) admitted the offence in his caution statement but could not lead the police to the hideout of his accomplices.
Chief Supt. Tuaruka averred that Vodafone Telecommunication Network Company was contacted and they identified the cables and estimated the value to be GH?10,000.
