An attempt by a middle-aged man to steal electric cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana at Kaase in Kumasi, ended tragically when he was electrocuted.

The deceased, who is yet to be identified, was killed when he attempted to cut through the11,000 volts cable, estimated at GH?70.00, situated near the Wood Complex at Kaase.

When graphic.com.gh visited the scene, the deceased was seen lying in a supine position, wearing a black T’shirt over a pair of black jeans trousers and gloves, obviously, to insulate him from electric shock.

A senior staff member of the Naja David Group of Companies, Mr Daniel Nkansah, told graphic.com.gh that some workers who were on duty Sunday evening, detected the death of the man after a power outage at about 6.00pm.

Naja David Group of Companies is also situated in the area.

Mr Nkansah suspected that the deceased who probably resided in the area, might have decided to take advantage of the power outage to cut pieces of the cable and sell to make some money.

The Public Relations Manager of the Ashanti Region ECG, Mr Erasmus Kyere Baidoo told graphic.com that the ECG received information from its control operation team about the man’s electrocution Monday morning.

The police is yet to issue a report on the incident.
