Residents of Banda Nkwanta in the Bole District of the Northern Region are accusing officials of the Forestry Commission of selling portions of the Bui Game Reserve.?
According to them, some of the officials of the Commission have turned the game reserve as a money making venture at the expense of residences.?
Speaking to?Citi News, the spokesperson for the residents Joseph Dassah said he believes there are no animals living in the forest reserve due to the illegal activities being perpetrated by the officials of the Forestry Commission.
?What has currently taken place at that reserve, I don?t even think there is any wildlife in that place anymore,? he said.
He noted that the presence of a sawmill in the reserve is an indication that the officials are engaged in illegal logging and sale of lands.
Mr. Dassah is therefore appealing to the government and the appropriate authorities to take immediate steps to salvage the situation and save the forest reserve.
