Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Communications has denied reports that government has released new allowances for Ministers of State, which is over twelve thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh?12,000).

ministers4According to him, the information carried by section of the media to that effect is false.

In a statement, Dr Omane Boamah stressed that, “no Ghanaian Minister enjoys an allowance as part of his/her salary except those entitled to rent because they do not stay in a Government-owned residence.”

He also averred that the information is surprising, but Ghanaians can be assured that their Ministers are not entitled to the said allowances, and do not receive same.

Dr. Omane Boamah also noted that a Cabinet Minister does not even earn GH?10,000, let alone a non-Cabinet Minister.

He called on the newspapers that carried the said story including the Chronicle newspaper to always go by the tenets of responsible journalism and publishing desist from publishing deliberate and concocted stories as news.

The said publication suggested that Ministers in addition to their salaries also earn Duty allowance, Special allowance, Entertainment allowance and Wardrobe allowance.

However, the statement also expressed disappointment in a former Deputy Minister for finance, Dr. Gheysika Agambila, for jumping to condemn Ministers of State without verifying the truth or otherwise of the story.
