There was jubilation at Agona Swedru when the reconstructed Bailey bridge over Akora River was opened to traffic on Tuesday.
Drivers at both sides of the bridge crossed and tooted their horns as soon as Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, the Central Regional Minister, and Nana Badu Ehuren, Sanaahene of Swedruman Council of Chiefs, jointly cut the tape to officially open the bridge.
According to the jubilant drivers and traders, they were happy that the bridge had been opened and they would not have to use the main Swedru/Winneba road to get to Agona Swedru.
The Bridge was damaged by a dynamite blast on February 9 and it hampered the flow of vehicles to some part of Agona Swedru.
Mr Quansah commended the Assembly for the sponsorship package given to needy but brilliant students in the Municipality.
Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the reconstructed bridge has over 50 years? life span, adding that there were plans to
to construct two additional bailey bridges on River Akora at Agona Swedru to reduce heavy vehicular traffic in the town.
He said the assembly had awarded scholarships to 527 needy but brilliant students in the Agona West District.
Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, MP for Agona West presented cheques to 31 needy students at the ceremony to pursue their education.
Nana Badu Ehuren commended the government for the reconstruction of the bridge, adding that the completion will ease the huge traffic jam in Agona Swedru.
