Botswana Power Cooperation (BPC) has revealed power supply is not enough to meet demand of the country despite importing power from South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique. 
The public relation officer for Botswana Power Cooperation Sandy Mosarwa on Tuesday said power shortage in the country is because the Morupule B power station’s 4 units are not fully operating, only two units are supplying power and one of them is not in full capacity, adding that if 3 units could operate fully, the power will be enough for the country.
Mosarwa said even though Morupule B Power station is not operating fully, the country has backup power operators in Orapa and Matshelagabedi which is reserved for emergencies only.
He also said due to shortage of power, the corporation was forced to introduce the load management where they asses the use of power during peak hours. The corporation also urged Batswana to brace themselves for possible load shedding during the winter season.
BPC has taken the load management since the end of April as it is anticipating power supply challenges during the winter season. Enditem
