Most teachers? quarters in the Bongo District have been abandoned at a time when newly-posted teachers are complaining about the lack of accommodation in the district, DAILY GUIDE has learnt.
The teachers told DAILY GUIDE that ?we would prefer commuting from other parts of the district to the work because of the dangers we would have to encounter at the quarters.?
Most of these ?dilapidated? quarters are spread across some seven communities in the Bongo District, including Ayopia, Adaboya, Gurigo and Boko.
A staff of Gurigo Primary School told DAILY GUIDE that ?the teachers? quarters for my school has become home to dangerous reptiles.
Asked why the structures had been abandoned for so long, they said the buildings had not been connected to electricity.
They also added that the location of the teachers? quarters presented major challenges to the teachers.
According to residents, most occupants of the quarters were constantly being attacked by ghosts and other reptiles.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Alexis Ayamdor, in an interview, gave the assurance that the situation would soon be improved to help attract more teachers to the community.
He disclosed that ?once the structures were constructed with public funds, people should be interested in protecting them.?
