A BOLGATANGA High court has placed an injunction on the activities of the Bongo Constituency Executive of the New Patriotic Party, until December 17, 2013, when the case will be heard in court.
By this injunction, the Bongo Constituency is very unlikely to join the other constituencies in the Upper East Region for the New Patriotic Party?s nationwide constituency elections,
scheduled for December 14, 2013.
Some aggrieved members of the party took the constituency executives to court for failing to organize the polling station elections as expected. According to them, the executives rather decided to hand-pick some few people to fill the various positions in almost all the polling stations.
One of the petitioners, Timothy Baba told DAILY GUIDE in an
interview that, the current constituency executive deliberately denied some qualified persons the opportunity to contest the polling station executive elections, contrary to the party?s constitution.
?We believe that they intentionally did that, thinking that some
people do not support them and so hand-picked people they believe will support them at the constituency executive elections. Now there is an injunction on the constituency election. It is our prayer that the court will ensure that the right thing is done, so that we don?t get people calling us names in this region.?
The current Bongo constituency chairman, Peter Ayimbisa, declined to respond to the petitioners? claim when he was contacted by the media.
