A bomb was detonated in the Sabon-Gari area of Kano City at about 7.15p.m. on Sunday.

The explosive was reportedly placed between two vehicles by unknown men on New Road at Sabon Gari.

Eyewitnesses said the explosion threw the area into confusion as people scampered for safety.

Although some vehicles were destroyed, it could not be ascertained if there were human casualties as at press time, as the area has been cordoned off by the military.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Musa Majia who confirmed this, dispelled rumours of severity of the blast, saying “it was a low calibre Improvised Explosive Devise”.

He assured residents of the area and the city that the security forces were on top of the situation, advising them to continue their normal routine as an anti-bomb squad had been dispatched to the area.

The Sabon-Gari area is mostly occupied by Christians and non-indigenes in the ancient city.

Earlier in the year, Kano City was rocked by multiple bomb blasts which killed hundreds of people.
