Blue Rose Table Tennis Club of Buduburam, near Kasoa, claimed gold at the cadet competition held as part of the 2026 World Table Tennis Day (WTTD) celebrations, defeating five other clubs in a keenly contested tournament at The Big House Table Tennis Club in New Ashongman Estates, Accra, on Saturday, April 25.
The winning team comprised Louis Mbrah Kinful, Nicholas Adu Boahen, Nathan Frimpong, Napoleon Frimpong and Jeffrey Adjabeng, coached and managed by Lord Kinful.
Five other clubs took part in the event: The Big House TT Club of New Ashongman, Ping Hopes of Nungua, Vilcabamba of Kasoa, Chorkor TT Club, and Madina TT Club.
The event was supported by SpinSight ESN Digital and the ITTF Foundation, with Rightset Ghana also among the organisers, and was aimed at promoting grassroots participation and youth development in the sport.
Samuel Asare Bediako, founder of The Big House Table Tennis Club, said the tournament offered an important developmental platform for young players, urging parents to encourage their children to participate in sport. Samira Mensah, representing Rightset Ghana, congratulated the players and acknowledged the contributions of all who made the three-day celebrations possible.
World Table Tennis Day is celebrated globally on April 23 each year, and 2026 carries particular significance as it marks the centenary of table tennis. The day is initiated by the ITTF Foundation to promote the sport as a tool for social inclusion, health, and community development.
The date honours the birthday of Ivor Montagu, the founder and first president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Ghana’s celebrations ran across three days, culminating in Saturday’s cadet competition.
