South African Premier Soccer League club?Bloemfontein Celtic have issued an unqualified apology to their foreign players for ongoing xenophobia attacks on foreign nationals and other PSL clubs are expected to follow their action.?
South Africans have embarked on wide-range xenophobia attacks on other Black foreign nationals, beating, looting and killing other African nationals living and working in the Southern Africa country.
So far no report has emerged of a footballer being attacked. But Celtic chairman Max Tshabalala has apologised to all foreign players plying their trade in South Africa and announced the club will join an anti-xenophobia march on Thursday.
In a press release published on the club?s official website, Tshabalala condemned the on-going violence against foreign nationals living in South Africa and revealed they will be joining the march alongside the ANC, SACP and COSATU on Thursday.
?This abhorrent conduct of discrimination needs to be condemned with the contempt it deserves,? he said.
?We have players thoroughly committed to playing for various Premiership teams from all over Africa.
?We must make sure that they are protected and celebrated by the same people killing innocent human beings.
?It will be a travesty of justice if we fold arms and pretend not to see what is happening.
?I?m completely incensed and somehow perturbed looking at how vultures destroy the fruits of liberation with some idiotic acts of brutality.
There are over six Ghanaian players playing in the South African PSL and the second-tier league and could also suffer the attacks which are ranging on.
Other clubs are expected to follow Celtic?s move of condemning the attacks and joining a protest to show their solidarity.
