Swimming as we know, is done inside water. That is stream, river, swimming pool, etc. However, even when the swimmer is extremely thirsty, he resists the temptation to drink out of the water in which he is swimming. He feels, sometimes rightly, that the water is dirty, salty, or just cannot be taken into the body system.
Many people who go to church are like this thirsty swimmer. Maybe you attend a church where the pastor(s), ministers, catechist, and Bible teachers are very rich in the knowledge of the word of God. Unfortunately, you are rarely available to receive this word.On sunday?morning while your?Sunday?school teacher is already teaching, you are still in your house either browsing pictures of nude people, using your phone or laptop; or perhaps you are watching a television show; or even still sleeping on your bed. Your lateness to church is just habitual. On work days, you are in office before?8am?but on Sundays, you can stroll into the house of God whenever you like. You are just frustrating the efforts of your Bible teachers and priests or pastors to lead you to heaven. Above all, you are a disappointment to God because you have made him so small in your heart.
The use of the thirsty swimmer?s example is for want of an alternative example. As you read this piece, examine yourself whether the thirsty swimmer is not far better than you. He has a good reason for not drinking water in the middle of water. You don?t have any reason for your misbehaviour towards God. Also, the swimmer is at least, thirsty for water amidst water. You are not even thirsting after the word of God despite the presence of God?s instruments to deliver it to you.
The dangerous implications of your character are many. First, you remain empty from year to year as regards knowledge of the word of God because you are not feeding yourself.??My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children? (Hosea 4:6 NIV).
Secondly, you stand the chance of making mistakes in your choice of a life partner. You are not involving your spiritual covering (pastor/priest) in the process, (especially if you belong to a true body of Christ). How can you go into a marital relationship without cooperate prayers, godly counsel or involvement of the authorities in your local church? You are definitely prone to mistakes.
As a family, you are not making Christ the head of the home if the entire family is not exposed to the word of God. It is the word of God that giveth life and guarantees a future happy home.
Please, make it a point of duty to attend?Sunday?School, Catechism, Bible study and?Sunday?services PUNCTUALLY. It will help your marital relationship.
On the other hand, if you feel your current place of worship is not the right place, move over to where you can be adequately fed with the spiritual food that will help you grow spiritually and make heaven. It is wiser to change parish than to perish in a wrong parish.
