West African Development Bank and a coalition of four commercial banks in Benin have given Benin’s government a loan of 35.5 billion CFA Francs (about 59 million U.S. dollars) to facilitate migration from analogue to digital migration, an official source in Cotonou said on Wednesday.

digitalA funding agreement in this regard was signed in Cotonou between BOAD president Christian Adovelande and Benin’s Finance and Economy Minister Komi Koutche.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Adovelande said the funds will enable Benin to join other countries that have switched from analogue to digital broadcasting by the end of this year.

Benin missed the June 17, 2015 global deadline for the switch over to digital broadcasting due to, among other issues, lack of funds. Enditem
