The director of Benin’s finance and economy ministry Servais Adjovi said the agency will not only promote transparency in the management of land, but it will also regulate sale of land in rural areas.

“The main challenges facing the National Land Agency include securing private title deeds across the country and regaining the confidence of members of the public,” he said.

In early 1990s, the land situation in Benin was characterized by land insecurity both in rural and urban areas, as well as land speculation especially in semi-urban regions.

Several reforms, especially adoption of a land law as well as creation of a National Land Agency were initiated to try and address the situation. Enditem
